Danny Santos is a trained Ayahuasca Shaman. In the summer of 2023, after two months of living amongst the Shipibo tribe in their home village of Inkankena, Santos completed the Curandero Training Program under Shipibo maestro and tribe elder Don Enrique Lopez-Fasanando.

Throughout the course, Santos received the "don," or indigenous blessing, from Don Enrique to begin serving Ayahuasca, as well as use the tools and teachings of the Shipibo tribe to spread the Shipibo's message of curanderismo and healing to the Western world.

A Transformative Journey to Kea Santos

Ayahuasca Background

Santos began studying Ayahuasca shamanism and plant medicine through the Peruvian Shipibo lineage in 2019. Under a Shipiba maestra, who shall remain unnamed for the sake of anonymity, Santos began sitting in ceremony, learning the ancient Shipibo language and ancient medicine songs, known as icaros, and an introduction to the basic customs and traditions of the Shipibo shamanic lineage.

After four years of study and completing five intensive plant medicine dietas with his teacher in Northern California, Santos’ Shipiba maestra sent him to the heart of the Amazon to live amongst the Shipibo Tribe through the Lopez/Mahua lineage. His closest plant ally and dieta is Noya Rao, the bioluminescent tree of light and enlightenment.

The tools and teachings that Santos received during his time in the mystic center in the heart of the Amazon have forever transformed his work as a curandero. These included an extensive knowledge of the Shipibo icaros, a comprehensive education around becoming a vegetalista through plant medicine, and how to use plant remedies and shamanic techniques for the purpose of purifying the human body and soul. Santos also learned how to prepare others for Ayahuasca ceremonies with integrity, as well as caring for the patient before, during, and after the ceremony, creating a seamless and safe journey for participants from beginning to end.

Shaman Training in Peru

In summer 2023 Santos was initiated through the Shipibo tribe from Peru, specifically through the Lopez/Mahua lineage. Under Don Enrique's guidance and care, Santos was gifted two shamanic names.

The first Shipibo name gifted was Kea Santos (pronounced Coo-uh). Kea is the spirit of the earth and encapsulates all that is of the natural world: the plants, the rivers and oceans, the animals and insects, the hills, valleys and mountains, the jungles and deserts, and so on. Santos, in this context, refers to the saints, the spirit world, the doctor plant spirits and extraterrestrial spirits beyond the earthly plane, and with Santos' background in astrology, also the planets, the astrological archetypes, and the spirit of the skies, stars, and galaxy. Essentially, the name Kea Santos means the bridge between heaven and earth, merging the physical world with the magic of the universe and other dimensions.

The second name was Soi Niwe. In Shipibo, Soi (pronounced Sú-wee) is a masculine adjective to describe excellence, greatness, and magnificence. Niwe (pronounced Nee-wuh) refers to airs, energy, and spiritual aura. Together, according to Don Enrique, Soi Niwe is the magnificent energy that Santos emanates in Ayahuasca ceremonies, particularly referring to his "excellent singing voice" (soi niwe) and the purifying melodies Santos sings that heal and cleanse the space, paired with his 3-octave range and powerful vibrato. Don Enrique gave particular praise to Santos' ability to harmonize and sing along with other students and veterans of the Curandero Training Program

A Journey of a lifetime to the Amazon

During his time at the camp and under the supervision of Don Enqrique, Santos fasted for a total of 44 days (15 in the first month and 29 in the second month), living off of only plant medicines and water, shedding a total of 55 pounds while at Inkakena. Detoxing his mind, body, and spirit, Santos completed two month-long plant dietas, including his second dieta with Noya Rao and a dieta with the enigmatic Chullachaqui tree.

Santos' transformation after returning from the Amazon has truly been a metamorphosis. Santos has kept the 55 pounds off, and with the spirit of Chullachaqui, has embraced a healthier diet and lifestyle, daily weight lifting, an active interest in yoga, and in general, slowing down. Santos' results are just one of the many success stories of the healing power of plant medicine.
